When I was sitting cold and alone,
with my tears rolling down my eyes,
you quietly put your head on my lap and I felt less lonely.
You were with me, when no one else wanted to be.
You made sure I never had to sleep alone
You made sure I never would go cold
For years, we shared my plate
For years, we shared my pillow
At times, we fought for space in bed
But you usually won and I had to scoot over
As I sit here, months past the divorce
What I miss isn't the finesse Italian kitchen
It's not the bathroom with 500$ faucet
It's not the sleek wooden floors
And it's not even the woman I loved for almost 10 years
It's your wagging tail, I miss.
It's your hard howl when you need to go potty
It's your soft howl when you want up in my bed
It's your wet sloppy licks to wake me up in the morning
It's your soft fur that served me as a pillow
You and I won't ever share the couch again
You and I won't share the pillow like we used to
And I can never make you understand why i left.
you'd never understand the pain i feel when i see you
I love you, my hard headed Siberian Husky
And the dorky older sibling of yours too
